What is a merchant account?

Merchant accounts are accounts with bank or other non-bank merchant account providers that allow a merchant (you) to accept credit card payments.

Banks tend to be looked upon as more reliable and secure but they also tend to be more selective. Non-bank providers may be reputable and secure too, but there are some that are not. They also tend not to be as selective as banks but their rates will often be higher.

The non-bank providers themselves go to the banks to get a merchant account on your behalf. They accept the risk of their customers not paying or being fraudulent.

Euros 2.7% + EUR .35 3.4% + EUR .35

Pounds Sterling 2.7% + £.20 3.4% + £.20

Yen 2.7% + ¥40 3.4% + ¥40

Further discounts and offsetting are available depending of volume of sales per month and by using your PayPal debit card.
